Welcome to the Global Career Center (GCC) dedicated University of Alberta web page.
Below is information about options and an opportunity to take the first step towards your internship program.
Internship Process
The first step in the internship program is to express interest through the GCC link below. You will also apply via the University of Alberta International Office.
Applying to U of A and expressing interest to GCC at the same time will expedite the process. You cannot officially be accepted to the program until approved by U of A.
Typical application deadlines follow:
-
Fall Semester. mid-May
-
Spring Semester. early October
-
Summer Semester. mid-February
After receiving your application, GCC will send you a welcome email prompting you to schedule a pre-placement meeting, complete online questionnaire, and submit resume.
The pre-placement meeting is an opportunity for GCC to learn more about your background and career or academic goals as well as provide context for internship opportunities in the location(s) for which your application is under consideration.
Our placement process is highly personalized to you. We conduct employer outreach on your behalf based on the information you provide us in your resume and pre-placement meeting.
We do not pre-source placements.
Don't worry, our placement team will walk you through everything you need to know!

However, there is some flexibility. If you need to start on a different date please discuss this during your pre-placement meeting.
Internships will be between 8-16 weeks long depending on your needs. Make sure to discuss your length of internship preference during your pre-placement meeting.
During the month before your internship begins you will participate in an online orientation session. GCC will send a meeting invitation with the exact date and time.
For onsite participants additional onsite orientation activities will take place during the first week after your arrival in the city.
The program includes online and/or onsite professional development events and cultural exploration activities to help you make the most of your experience.
Next Steps
Clicking the "express interest" button will open up a short form to fill out prior to scheduling an informational meeting with a member of our team.
Once we receive the form we will review your information and reach out to you via the email address you provided to schedule a short (15-20 minute) conversation via Zoom.
Filling out the form and participating in the meeting does not mean you are committing to the program. We look forward to the conversation and if questions please reach out via info@globalcareercenter.org.
