Welcome to the Global Career Center (GCC) dedicated University of Alberta web page. You will find the information you need about the various internship program options and will be able to apply via the button below.
Internship Process
For Summer 2023, internships can be completed onsite or virtually.
You will apply via the U of A application process. Applications are accepted now through January 27, 2023. You must also apply to GCC via the apply button below.
We encourage you to apply to U of A and GCC at the same time so that you can expedite the process BUT you cannot officially be accepted to the program until approved by U of A.
After receiving your application, GCC will send you a welcome email prompting you to schedule a pre-placement meeting. That meeting must be completed within two weeks of application.
The pre-placement meeting is an opportunity for GCC to learn more about your background and career or academic goals as well as provide context for internship opportunities in the location(s) for which your application is under consideration.
Our placement process is highly personalized to you. We conduct employer outreach on your behalf based on the information you provide us in your resume and pre-placement meeting.
We do not pre-source placements.
After this meeting, a deposit will be required to move forward with the program. (*see internship fees)
Don't worry, our placement team will walk you through everything you need to know!
Internship Dates
Ideally, all Internships , whether onsite or online, will begin on
Monday June 5, 2022.
However, there is some flexibility. If you need to start on a different date please discuss this during your pre-placement meeting.
Internships will be between 8-16 weeks long depending on your needs.
1-2 weeks prior to beginning your internship you will participate in an online orientation session usually lasting less than one hour. GCC will send a meeting invitation with the exact date and time or the orientation.
For onsite participants an additional onsite orientation will take place during the first week after your arrival in the city.
Your internships will end on a Friday either 8, 10, 12, or 16 weeks from the June 8 start date based on the duration you choose. Make sure to discuss your length of internship preference during your pre-placement meeting.

Application Process
Clicking the "apply" button will open up a form we call the pre-placement questionnaire. Please take 10-15 minutes to fill out and submit this form, including an upload of your resume/CV (we do not need a cover letter).
Once we receive the form we will review your information and reach out to you via the email address you provided to schedule a 30 minute pre-placement meeting via Zoom.
Filling out the form and participating in the meeting does not mean you are committing to the program. You will decide if you want to continue with the placement process after the meeting.
