Internships in New York City: Global Internship Programs with GCC

Location Spotlight: New York City
New York City is one of the world's most dynamic professional environments — and a long-standing destination for Global Career Center (GCC) internship programs.
GCC supports international internship and co-op programs in New York City, connecting students with host organizations across industries while providing local support, professional development, and opportunities to experience life in the city.
From finance and business to marketing, communications, technology, nonprofits, and more, NYC offers students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in one of the world's leading business and cultural hubs.
What Does a GCC Internship Program in NYC Include?
While each university partnership is customized, GCC's NYC programs typically combine professional internship experience with structured support and opportunities for students to connect outside of work.
Orientation & Local Support
Students begin their internship experience with an orientation during their first week, hosted by GCC's NYC Program Director, Melanie Pellis.
Example of a previous orientation location in NYC: The Malin Library and co-working space (Flatiron District, Manhattan).
The orientation helps students settle into the city, understand what to expect from their internship experience, and connect with other students participating in the program.
Throughout the program, GCC provides local support and helps students make the most of their time in New York.
Experience NYC Together
An internship in New York is about more than the workplace. Students also have opportunities to experience the city together through group activities designed to build community and introduce students to NYC culture.

Summer programs typically include multiple group experiences, which have included:
⚾ New York Yankees baseball games
🎭 Broadway shows
Exploring different NYC neighborhoods
Getting together for informal social activities

These experiences give students a chance to meet peers from other universities, explore the city, and build connections beyond their individual internship placements.
In-Person, Hybrid & Remote Internship Options
NYC internship placements can take a variety of formats depending on the host organization and program requirements.
Students may complete internships that are:
Fully in-person in Manhattan or Brooklyn
Hybrid, combining remote and in-person work
Fully remote, while still participating in the broader GCC NYC student community
For students working remotely, GCC incorporates opportunities to meet in person and collaborate with other students in the program.
We also make use of co-working spaces around NYC for occasional meet-ups, giving remote and hybrid interns a professional environment to work alongside peers, exchange ideas, and build their local network.
A Wide Range of Internship Opportunities
New York City is home to organizations across virtually every industry, creating opportunities for students with diverse academic and career interests.
GCC has supported placements in areas including:
Business & finance
Marketing & communications
Technology & IT
Nonprofit organizations
Operations
Social media & digital marketing
Business consulting
Host organizations can range from established companies to nonprofits, agencies, startups, and other organizations looking for motivated students to contribute to real projects.
Recent NYC internship placements have included organizations such as Ariel Partners, Dress for Success, and Social View Agency, alongside university partnerships including UC Berkeley and the University of Oslo.
Why NYC?
For domestic and international students alike, New York City offers an opportunity to develop professional skills while experiencing life in one of the world's most diverse cities. Outside of their internships, students can explore:
Central Park and the Brooklyn Bridge
Broadway and NYC's performing arts scene
Museums, galleries, restaurants, and cultural attractions
Neighborhoods across Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, and beyond
Weekend destinations throughout the New York region
NYC's extensive public transportation network also makes it easy for students to explore beyond the city. Many students take weekend trips around New York State, while others use Amtrak to visit destinations such as Philadelphia and Washington, D.C.
