Internships in Boston: Exploring Global Career Opportunities with GCC

Location Spotlight: Boston, MA
Boston combines professional opportunity, history, and culture, making it an exciting destination for students participating in global internship programs. Erin Ceaser, GCC’s Boston On-Site Program Manager for Summer 2026, shares her perspective on supporting students, exploring the city, and making the most of an internship experience in Boston.
Why Boston?
Boston offers a unique combination of world-renowned universities, a thriving healthcare and biotechnology sector, a growing technology ecosystem, and a strong international community. For students participating in internships, the city provides opportunities to gain practical experience, build professional relationships, and explore new career paths.
It’s also an accessible city with plenty to discover, from its distinct neighborhoods and waterfront spaces to its rich history and public transportation network.
One of my favorite things about Boston is that students can spend their weekdays gaining professional experience and their weekends exploring a city that feels like a living classroom. Whether walking the Freedom Trail, exploring Cambridge, spending time along the Charles River, or discovering a new neighborhood, there’s always something new to experience.

From biotechnology and technology to business, marketing, and nonprofit organizations, students can gain hands-on experience while developing skills relevant to their future careers.

Student Experiences Beyond the Workplace
Alongside professional development, exploring the host city is an important part of the global internship experience. Throughout the summer, we focused on helping our Boston students feel connected to the city and to one another while navigating their internships. Some of our activities included:
Boston Harbor Sunset Cruise: Students enjoyed an evening on the water, taking in the city skyline and experiencing Boston from a different perspective.
Boston Red Sox Game at Fenway Park: We brought students together for an iconic Boston experience. As the oldest active ballpark in Major League Baseball, Fenway Park offered a memorable introduction to the city’s sporting culture.
Venture Café and GCC Meet-and-Greet: Students had opportunities to connect with one another, build community, and engage with Boston’s professional and innovation ecosystem.
I especially appreciated being able to make some of these signature Boston experiences more financially accessible through GCC-sponsored programming. For students balancing the costs of living in a new city and participating in an internship, these outings provided opportunities to explore, form friendships, and create lasting memories beyond the workplace.

How Boston Internships Support Student Growth
One of the most rewarding parts of supporting students was watching them become more independent and comfortable navigating both Boston and their professional environments.
For many students, starting an internship involves learning how to communicate in a workplace, manage new responsibilities, and build confidence in unfamiliar settings. Having local support and opportunities to connect with peers helped make that transition more manageable.
I think that’s what makes Boston such a valuable location for GCC’s global internship programs. Students have the opportunity to develop professionally while learning to navigate a new environment, build relationships, and become more confident in themselves.
Ultimately, the experience is about much more than where students intern. It’s also about the city they explore, the people they meet, and the independence they develop along the way.
